Rollin Thunder wins AABA Junior State Tournament AGAIN Rollin Thunder's major team coached by George Welch and Billy Smith won the 2001 AABA Junior Major State Tournament. This is 2 in a row for Rollin Thunder as they won the 2000 Junior Minor State Tournament last year. The championship game against the Rosedale Hogs was very exciting. Nick Suggs hit a grand slam home run to give Thunder a 5 - 3 lead in the top of the sixth inning. The Hogs scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, the Hogs #23 came to bat after fracturing his wrist. He was batting with 1 hand, and fouled 3 off, before finally striking out sealing a 5 - 4 win for Thunder. Don Youngblood, AABA Assistant State Commissioner, presented the game ball to the Hogs player for his courage and determination. We would like to congratulate Rollin Thunder for another fantastic year!!! In other state tournament news, our Teeny League Minor Devil Rays coached by Steve Carrol and Scott Anderson came in 3rd in the 2001 AABA Minor Teeny State Tournament. Congratulations Devil Rays!!! |
